Grandma Johnsons Bread


2 Quarts warm water

4 Tbsp. yeast

4 Tbsp. sugar

2 - 4 Tbsp salt

Add 20 cups flour (16 to 20 cups depending on elevation, 1/3 to 1/2 cup oil depending on the amount of flour you use.

stir well and rise twice after risen twice knead to death

Cook at 400 for about 10 minutes then turn down to 350 for 30 to 40 minutes

Rolo Cookies


1 Pkg. Devils food cake mix
1/3 cup oil
2 eggs
about 24 Rolo candies, unwrapped

Mix all ingredients, except Rolos, batter will be thick...flatten about 1 TBS of dough in your hand and then wrap it around a Rolo...roll it around with the palms of your hands to make sure it is sealed... place on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 350 for 7 minutes... do not over bake...allow to cool for 4 minutes on the baking sheet before removing to a wire rack to cool...these are great fresh
I wasn't listening to a song while I made these, I was watching the Nate Berkus show and found out my design style is D.

Southwest Shredded Chicken 3 Bean Chili


4 Medium boneless skinless breasts-cooked and shredded

2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil

1 lg. onion, chopped

1 lg. bell pepper, chopped

4 clove of garlic, minced

3 14 oz. cans of chicken broth

16 oz can of kidney beans, drained

16 oz can of black beans, drained

16 oz can of canelli beans, drained

15 oz can of Muir glen Fire Roasted Diced Tomatoes

6 oz can of tomato paste

1 Tbsp Tabasco hot sauce

1 Tbsp fresh lime juice

1 heaping Tbsp cumin

1 1/4 tsp salt

1/4 fresh cracked black pepper

Heat olive oil in a large dutch oven over medium heat. Saute onion and bell pepper until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in garlic and shredded chicken breast; cook for about 1 minute then stir in chicken broth, beans, tomatoes, tomato paste, hot sauce, lime juice, chili powder, cumin, salt and pepper. Cook on medium heat for 5 minutes then reduce heat to low and simmer until ready to serve.


I was listening to Sawyer Brown when I started cooking this and about halfway through the theme to "Lonesome Dove" came on, one of my dads favorites.

Graveyard Brownies


Fudgy Graveyard Brownies:
1 Brownie Mix, 8x8 size
6 Milano Cookies (for Grave)
5 Oreo Cookies crushed
6 candy corn pumpkin and normal candy corns
1 cup melted chocolate for frosting and piping
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Preheat oven to 350 degree's F. Bake Brownies in a 8x8 inch pan lined with tinfoil, sprayed with cooking spray. Let cook completely then cut into 6 rectangles.
Frost with melted chocolate reserving 2 Tbsp. for piping for cookies. Pipe RIP onto the Milano Cookies then press into the back of each brownie. Top with candy corn pumpkin and candy corn. Sprinkle with crushed oreo's for the "dirt" Serve

Seal - People Get Ready (Video)




It's a rainy day today and I was in the mood for Seal I love his voice. I made Bread sticks and French Oven Beef Stew. Makaila was in the mood for squash so we added that to the mix and it was amazing. If you could smell my house right now you would want to curl up with a good book book and read.

French Oven Beef Stew:

3 lbs Stew Meat in 1 1/2 inch cubes

6 carrots quartered

3 -4 med. potatoes quartered

3 - 4 med. onions quartered

4 stalks of celery cut in pieces

1 can of tomato soup

1 T. sugar

1 T. Salt

2 T. Tapioca

1 1/4 c. water

Mix in 4 quart casserole dish cover and bake for 4 hours at 300.

2 T butter

1 1/4 cup flour

1/2 T sugar

1 3/4 tsp. baking powder

3/4 tsp salt

1/2 cup + 1 tsp milk

Heat oven to 450 F. Melt butter in a oblong pan, Roll out dough about 1/2 inch thick and into bread stick shape, place bread stick in pan and bake 5 to 10 minute until just brown.

Italian Cream Cake

2 cups sugar

1 cube butter

1/2 cup Crisco

2 cups flour

5 eggs, separated

1 tsp. baking soda

1 cup buttermilk

2 cups coconut

1/2 cup nuts

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Cream together sugar, shortening and butter together. Add egg yolks. Add flour with soda, alternating with buttermilk. Add nuts and coconut. Beat egg whites and fold into batter. Pour into a greased 9x13 pan. Bake @ 375 for 35 minutes. Cool

Cream Cheese Frosting

1 pkg. (8 oz) cream cheese

1 tsp. vanilla

1 tsp. milk

2 Tbs. butter

2 cups powdered sugar

Mix cream cheese, vanilla, milk and butter until smooth. Mix in powdered sugar until smooth. Frost cake when cake becomes cool.


while making this I was listening to, Tempted by Squeeze, Above Ground by Norah Jones and Hey Ya by out Cast. I think the combination of music helped the cake turn out better.
